Garad silk saree

Another popular silk saree originating in Bengal is Garad silk saree, which is a must-have in your wardrobe. Garad actually means white and refers to silk that has never been dyed, and hence these sarees generally have white or off-white body. These sarees are distinguished by red borders and small motifs, however with the passage of time, different coloured borders are now available. It is again Murshidabad which is associated with this type of saree. These traditional sarees are primarily worn by Bengali women on special occasions, especially festivals. Garad sarees are available in almost all the shops in Kolkata, such as Adi Mohini Mohan Kanjilal (College Street), Traders Assembly (Gariahat) and shops in New Market.
