An endless warehouse stacked to the brim with every retail product imaginable, Supercheap is a city in itself. Located towards the north of Phuket, this place looks like any other supermarket from the outside and has a large collection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, seafood, snacks, condiments, toiletries, electronics, liquor, medicines, construction materials, car and motorcycle parts, furniture and even aquarium fishes for that matter. Given its size (a whopping 12,000 sq m) and the maddening array of products available, getting lost in its aisles is very much possible. Not many people are aware of the fact that Supercheap was gutted in a devastating fire in October 2013 and was rebuilt with fire-proof materials only to open its doors, yet again, in 2014. The original entrance can still be seen standing in all its glory. It is not a very touristy market and you should therefore not expect to find souvenirs and lucrative bargains. If you are looking for authentic Thai spices and quality household supplies that aren’t available in your country, follow in the footsteps of the locals and head over to Supercheap. You will not be disappointed.
