Harbor

Located east of the palace and the Castle Nuovo, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, the habor is dotted with cafes and ice cream parlours. Its landscape is calm and serene, yet always bustling with activity. A series of piers and breakwaters divide the harbor into separate docks. Further east from the Piazza del Municipio, you will find the Molo Angioino, which houses the Marine Station. Nearby, the Eliporto (Heliport) has regular helicopter services to Capri, Ischia, and Capodichino Airport.
The port has a rich history dating back to the period of Greek colonisation. In 9th century BC, a group of sailors from Rhodes landed on this part of the world. During the era of Anjovins in the second half of the 13th century, the port progressed considerably and Naples became the most heavily populated and admired city in Europe.

Through the seaport overlooking the city, tourists can snatch a glimpse of the soul of Naples. Many tourist destinations on the Mediterranean Sea can be reached from this seaport. The Harbor Station has recently undergone restructuring to accommodate a new cruise line terminal, making it capable of receiving up to 2500 passengers in a day.
The future for the Harbor is as exciting as life on the sea. There are plans of establishing a ‘Piazza on the sea,’ creation of subways via Acton, a pedestrian area in Beverello, as well as underground transportation between the underground railway station of Piazza del Municipio and the Harbor Station.
