The Oman Desert Marathon is an annual event which is conducted during the month of November every time. The 5th Oman Desert Marathon 2017 will see the participation of around 100 runners hailing from 15 different countries of the world, who will be coming together to participate in this popular marathon through the vast wilderness of the Oman desert.
The Oman Desert Marathon race will require its participating runners to cover a distance of 165 km and be so self sufficient that they carry all of their equipment during the entire course of the race, except for water which will be reportedly provided to the runners at the checkpoints, each of which is located at a distance of 10 km from the other.
Organised by an Omani team with due support from the government and a few local communities, the marathon event is also ensuring safety of the runners by monitoring all of them from several vantage points on the entire route of the race.
Starting from the Alwasil Oasis of Bidiyah and the finishing point being on the shore of the Arabian Sea, what will make this marathon race a picturesque and unique experience for runners having a knack of travelling is the fact that the course of the race will take them through a wide variety of landscapes through six stages. The runners will be able to experiences the desert through its different shades, including red, golden and white sands, and also the many shapes and sizes of the desert’s sand dunes, myriad palm groves, hamlets and villages.
