Since sixteenth century, Christkindlesmarkt has taken place in the main square of the old town in Nuremberg. At 5:30 pm on the Friday before the first Advent Sunday, a ‘Christmas Angel’ (a young girl chosen from citizens of Nuremberg) opens the market and gates to over 200 stalls. This market is famous for its spiced lebkuchen (gingerbread), mulled wine, stöllen and sweet roasted almonds. You can also try traditional Nuremberg roast sausages and bratwurst for something more substantial. The market is also famous for selling─Prune Men─small figures made of prunes that you can take away as a souvenir. The market is quieter during evenings when you can relax with a glass of gluhwein and admire Christmas lights.
