Since the year 1882, horse racing has been a part of the lives of locals in Edmonton as Northlands Park opened to the public. Today the tradition continues as this horse racing track still operates and enthrals both visitors and locals alike. Operating 362 days of the year, it is a fun spot where visitors can watch the race, visit the casino or relish a great meal. For those who enjoy horse racing, make sure you plan your visit from May to September when powerful horses are pitted against each other in some of the most competitive races. Head to Northlands in the months of November and December to witness harness races, which is a strategic race in which Standardbred horses pull drivers in sulkies. While enjoying these races, whether betting or just watching, make sure to try out the delicious buffet or splurge on fine dining in the beautiful restaurant overlooking the track. With year-round special days featuring games and exhibits as well as plenty of other excitement, there is no question as to why Northlands Park is one of Edmonton’s most visited attractions.
