Northeast states in India to experience extreme weather till April 11

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Northeast India will continue to experience extreme weather till April 11, 2018. The department has made the prediction for six Northeastern states including Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The prediction says that the above mentioned regions will be hit by heavy rains, particularly the state of Meghalaya. Mawsynram in Meghalaya (meaning 'land of the clouds’) is also the wettest place in the world that receives annual rainfall of 11,873 mm. The destination receives maximum rainfall between the months of June and September.

Besides, the department has made predictions of thunderstorms with gust of wind and hail in Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura.

It is to be noted that Northeast is one of the prime tourist regions in the country having plenty offbeat tourist attractions. Meghalaya is home to living root bridges which are unique to the world, and a number of travellers visit here from all across the globe just to take a glimpse of this natural wonder.

Besides, Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur are renowned for their tribes and tribal way of living. Most of these tribes are ancient and endangered, and have their own way of life which attracts travellers in big numbers.

The department’s forecast has also mentioned April 11 to be the day of thunderstorm with strong winds at places over Sub-Himalayan regions of Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
