The Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a remarkable feat of engineering that has captivated travellers for a long time. The journey from Mettupalayam to Ooty takes approximately five hours, during which the train passes through 16 tunnels, crosses over 250 bridges, and winds around 208 curves. The steepest gradient on the route is 1 in 12.5, a challenging incline that showcases the railway’s engineering brilliance.
