National Gallery

This much-anticipated art gallery, opened in 2015, contains a collection of Southeast Asian and Singaporean art dating all the way from the 19th century to present day, and also hosts international art exhibitions. With a fabulous location right in the centre of the civic district, it will be housed within the old City Hall and Supreme Court buildings—both both gazetted as national monuments with a tremendous amount of history behind them—which have been preserved to retain their original classical architecture. With a lofty presence overlooking the flat green Padang in downtown Singapore, connecting bridges will link the two separate structures over the ground, while a basement that will join them down below. At over 60,000 sq m, the gallery will be the largest visual arts venue and museum in Singapore.
