Nathdwara

This town is most famous for its temple dedicated to a form of the Hindu god Krishna, known as Shrinathji. It is an important place of worship for followers of the Pushtimarg sect, which was started in the 16th century. It is located at a distance of 52 kilometres from Udaipur. The temple opens at several times during the day for the ‘darshan’ or sighting of the black stone idol. It is also decorated with pichhwai paintings which are made of cloth with colourful vegetable pigments, and depict scenes from Krishna’s life. These paintings are made locally and are available for tourists in the surrounding market.
