This old quarter of Istanbul is the oldest still-inhabited spots in the world. Walking around narrow lanes and hopping from one site to the other is the best way to explore Sultanahmet. There is also a tramline which connects all the important sights in the old quarter. The old quarter is home to most of the historical sights in Istanbul including Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sofia, Hagia Irene, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome, Archaeology Museums and Gülhane Park. Do not miss strolling around historic Soğukçeşme Street; the cobbled street lined with wooden houses is a reminder of Ottoman era. If you are keen on exploring museums in the old quarter, the Museum Pass Istanbul offers a great deal. One pass allows entry into Chora Museum, Hagia Sophia Museum, Topkapı Palace Museum, Harem Apartments, İstanbul Archaeological Museums, İstanbul Mosaic Museum and Museum of Turkish and İslamic Arts. There are quite a few legendary hammams located in the old quarter.
