Everyone who knows famous detective book’s author Agatha Christie must be aware of her renowned novel, Murder on the Orient Express, which was recently made into a movie staring Jonny Depp. Well, soon Paris might restart the operations of the original Orient Express as the French train firm that bought the fabled train back in 1977 when it had stopped operating, has decided to refurbish it.
The train company recently displayed many of the original train cars that were refurbished at the Gare de L’Est train station in Paris. Now the cars boast of superior interiors with leather chairs, pretty velvet curtains and wood tables. Among seven, three cars are just for dining just like in the original train. The restoration work started back in the year 2011.
The Executive Director of the Orient Express, Guillaume de Saint Lager mentioned that to restore the train, they went into their archives and dug out the original plans or samples of [fabrics] and so forth. They used exceptional experts.
The train company also found some original cars in Poland. They spent €14 million ($15.6 million) in renovating 16 cars. The CEO of the firm said that their aim is to have the original Orient Express on the rails everywhere in Europe. He called the whole project an “investment in railway heritage.”
