Mission Hills golf resort

An emerging golfing destination, Hainan Island has over 30 golf courses. The winter months between October and March are peak season and really the only time to visit, as the tropical heat and rain make the summer months virtually unplayable. Sanya’s most popular course is the Yalong Bay Golf Club. Designed by American designer Robert Trent Jones and shaped like a dragon’s claw, the course is surrounded by green hills and the Yalong Bay, and streaked by a river.
Another fantastic option is the sprawling Mission Hills golf resort. Located in Hainan Island’s capital Haikou, it is spread over 5,000 acres, roughly the size of Hong Kong Island. It has ten world-class golf courses (each with a unique design), a 539-room luxury hotel, multiple clubhouses, six restaurants and a spa (a 20,000-square-metre sprawl) almost the size of a Greek amphitheatre. The crown jewel is the Blackstone course which, at 7,800 yards, is the championship layout at the resort.
