Nubra Valley trek

This is a strenuous trek that starts from Phyang, near Spituk in Ladakh and finishes at Hunder in Nubra Valley. The classic Nubra Valley trek passes through one of the least visited areas among beautiful unspoilt landscapes and offers stunning views of the Karakoram Ranges. Nubra is a tri-junction, located to the north east of Ladakh valley. It lies to the north of Leh and was once the gateway to the ancient Silk route.

At a lower altitude than Leh, Nubra Valley is green and has warmer climate than the rest of Ladakh. The valley has vast alluvial plains and bactrian camels, which roam the desert-like landscape of the Shyok River. The trek from Phyang to Hunder connects the valleys of Indus and Shyok.
After walking to Lasermo La base camp; the top of Lasermo La (5150 m) offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, the Indus valley and the Shyok Valley. There are some campsites on the rocky trail set among beautiful meadows with a variety of wildflowers. On the way, along the Hunder stream, entire families of local shepherds from Hunder Dok village with their yaks, sheep and cows can be spotted. The shepherds shift here for the green summer months and collect milk, cheese, butter, wild vegetables and fuel for the winter. The trail passes through the twin villages of Dok Gongma, Dok Yokma before finally reaching Hunder.
