Mani Bhavan once played an important part in India’s freedom struggle. This is where Gandhiji stayed when he visited Mumbai between 1917 and 1934. Today, Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya serves as an important reminder of the independence struggle and the man we call the Father of the Nation. Mani Bhavan is a heritage structure, on the ground floor of which is a library with an extensive collection of books, mostly on Gandhiji and the freedom struggle. There are also many books on other topics in the library, which is open to all. Besides, there are displays of stamps issued on Gandhiji over the years. On the first floor is an auditorium where films on Gandhiji are screened, and on the second floor is the main museum. This is the section where Gandhiji lived, and the entire space has been preserved as it was, with Gandhiji’s personal items on display. The museum is a must visit to gain insight into the life and times of this great man!
