Perched at an altitude of 2590 m along the Chamba-Mussoorie highway, Kanatal is a short 30-km-drive from Mussoorie, and offers pleasant temperatures all year round. The name Kanatal is an amalgamation of the words kana (dry) and tal (lake), and was coined in memory of the lake that once existed here. Approached by a maze of narrow, zigzagging paths, this beautiful hill station is tucked away between the folds of the mountains, surrounded by a canopy of pine, deodar and rhododendron trees. There isn’t too much to do in terms of activities—just take in the beautiful surroundings, and get in a spot of activity by undertaking one of the many hiking trails though the surrounding hills.
