An award-winning architectural conversion from a factory supporting cottage industries, to its current avatar as the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, the building in itself warrants a detour to the old Shek Kip Mei neighbourhood where it stands. Having been given a new lease of life, it re-opened in 2008 as a nine-storey-high, multidisciplinary arts venue showcasing the work of over 100 artists and organisations—ranging from sculpture and painting, to animation, video production, drama and dance—and has retained its original layout (the central courtyard can be viewed from every floor) with the added feature of a glass roof. Over and above propagating the fine arts, it serves as the venue for a variety of art festivals, rotating exhibitions, performances and workshops and also houses a small-scale theatre in the basement, and a charming tea house on the rooftop, where guests can sample a wide variety of brews and an extensive dim sum menu.
