The Jaipur Lit Fest or JLF, as it is popularly known, is the largest free literary festival in the world. Held every January at the beautiful grounds of the Diggi Palace Hotel, it transforms the city into a vibrant cultural hub. Often described as the Kumbh Mela of literature, JLF has gained immense popularity in recent years, thanks to a host of celebrity speakers such as Oprah Winfrey, Nobel laureates such as Orhan Pamuk and Man Booker award winners like Ian McEwan. A celebration of both national and global literature, it includes a range of interesting readings, talks, debates, workshops and author interactions, spanning genres like fiction, history, travel and cinema. The carnival-like atmosphere spills over to the evenings, when the stage is taken over by folk musicians and indie acts from across India.
