Inside Old Car City, the world’s largest old car junkyard

Nearly 80 km from Atlanta in America lies a huge 34 ac compound, which looks strange, eerie and a scene out of some horror movie. Why? Because the compound houses the largest old car junkyard collections in the world! Sounds weird, right? Given its unique collection, the place has become a tourist attraction of a sort.

The place doesn’t feature shining Ferraris, Porsches or Bentleys but is proud of the junkyard collection. As you enter the jungle, you’ll find a rusty sign board, reading “The world’s oldest junkyard jungle, here 80 years.”
Most of the collection here is pure American steel from the midcentury. The junkyard is situated inside a forested property in Georgia’s countryside. The interesting place has more than 4500 cars, wherein the maximum number of models belongs from 1972 or older than that!
Who, how and when?

The Old Car City was founded in 1931 as a general store. It was started by an American family back then. The current owner of the junkyard, Dean Lewis, runs the place. The store was started by his parents, where he used to sell a wide range of products, from apparels to car parts, tires, and more.

It was during World War II when resources like steel and tires became scarce. The Lewis family was smart enough and shifted their focus into scrapping cars. In the late 1940s, the general store was transformed into an auto salvage yard. But later, Dean decided to preserve cars as he wanted to preserve their legacies.
And that’s how the world’s largest old car junkyard originated.

A list of some interesting collectibles
Though the outside of the yard contains dead cars, inside the main office building, there’s a collection of rare, unique and nicer vehicles. The collectible includes the last car that the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley bought, and a 1977 Lincoln Mark V. Collectible.
