Indian Railways to increase speed of 500 trains to save travel time

It’s time to rejoice for long-distance train travellers! We are all aware of the late-running conditions of Indian rails, which most of the time happens in long-route journeys. After so much of complaints and difficulties, Indian Railways to curb the situation, has announced to increase the speed of 500 trains that will reduce the travelling time by 2 hours. This move comes with two prime advantages—first, it will surely reduce travel time and, second, it will offer more time to the Indian Railways for maintenance work.
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has asked his main ministry officials to come up with an "innovative timetabling" to achieve this goal and if everything goes as per plan, this timetable will be effective from the month of November this year. The new plan will be first implemented on 50 trains for now and these will run as per the revised model. These include express and mail trains both. All will be converted into super-fast if things work fine. As per rail ministry, this plan will boost the average speed of existing trains. Also with the new plan, the trains will now halt at fewer important platforms only. Several long-distance trains are being focused which also include Bhopal-Jodhpur line that travels 992 km.
"Our plan is to maximise the use of the existing rolling stock. It can be done in two ways—if we have a train that is waiting somewhere to return, we can use it during the lay over period” a railway official said. According to one official, the primary objective of the new move is to utilise the existing fleet of trains more efficiently. The official also said that the plan as of now will target 50 trains, which will gradually go up to more than 500 trains.

The plan does sound amazing, right? So now let’s hope that there would be less inconvenience caused to the passengers and lesser number of waiting travellers on the railway stations.
