Hyderabad’s Nizam Museum is the talk of the town, but not for a good reason

The Nizam Museum in Hyderabad is the talk of the town because of the recent heist carried out by the burglars. A trip to the museum now becomes a must to see whatever is left in the museum, before it is too late.
As per the records, the museum currently has around 450 objects on display, belonging to Nizam VI, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan. It is estimated that the value of the objects that are on display can be anywhere between INR 250 crore and INR 500 crore.

The burglars broke into the museum and stole relics worth crores of rupees during the weekend. As per the news reports, a diamond studded tea cup, a gold tiffin box, a saucer and a spoon are among the items on which the thieves laid their hands. All these artefacts are the belongings of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. The burglars are suspected to have gained entry into the museum by removing the iron grill of the ventilator on the first floor, and the police suspects the role of some insiders in the theft.
The museum has on display several personal belongings of the Nizams and their family members, and also the gifts that were received by Mir Osman Ali Khan, who was the last Nizam when Hyderabad was annexed by India, i.e., from 1911 to 1948.

This museum also features Nizam’s luxury cars that includes a 1930 Rolls Royce, wardrobe of the sixth Nizam, who is believed to be the richest man in the world in 1930s. Also on display is a 150-year-old manually operated lift.

The Nizam Trust, run by the Nizam’s family, is one of the popular tourist attractions of the state, and was opened for public in 2000.
