The temples in India attract people from across the globe with their rich history and marvellous architecture. From Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Tirupati Temple to Jagannath Temple and Kedarnath Temple, India is unbeatable when it comes to temples!
Here is a list of some of the iconic temples one must visit in the country.
Jagannath Temple, Odisha
Situated in Puri, Odisha, Jagannath Temple is world-famous for multiple reasons, and one among these is the annual grand Ratha Yatra festival. The festival commemorates Lord Jagannath and his siblings and devotees from across the globe gather here to witness the grand festivities!
Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Uttar Pradesh
The temple is located in the old alleys of Varanasi and is considered one of the holiest shrines for Hindus. People say that those who breathe their last here in Kashi Vishwanath, get relieved from the cycle of birth and death. This ancient temple, set close to the holy Ganges, is a must-visit shrine in India!
Siddhivinayak Temple. Mumbai
The temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, is one of the most celebrated temples in India. It is visited by Bollywood eminents and business tycoons from across the country and also sees big donations, which also makes it one of the wealthiest temples in the country.
Vaishno Devi Temple, Katra (Jammu and Kashmir)
This globally famous temple is considered quite sacred among the Hindus. The trek to the temple begins from Katra in Jammu and offers some stunning views of the valley. Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the temple of Vaishno Devi to seek the blessings of the divine.
Somnath Temple, Somnath
Somnath is counted among the most ancient temples in the country. It is also an architectural marvel located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The temple, dedicated to the Moon God, has been destroyed and rebuilt myriad times over a period of a thousand year! It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples in India.
Kedarnath Temple, Rudraprayag
This is among the most famous Shiva temples in India, sitting at a height of 3583 m in the town of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. The temple is also a part of the auspicious Chardham Yatra and remains open from April till November. The Hindu month of Shravana sees a huge number of devotees in the temple.
Shirdi Saibaba Shrine, Maharashtra
The temple needs no introduction. One of the most prominent Hindu temples in the world, the Saibaba shrine in Shirdi, Maharashtra, receives lakhs of devotees every year. It is believed that the temple has gold worth INR 32 crore!
Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kerala
Considered as the richest temple in India, Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a must-visit religious attraction. It is also noted as the wealthiest Hindu temple in the world! The treasure of the temple includes diamond ornaments and gold statues among others. And here we are talking about wealth of over 20 billion dollars!
