Indian Railways: Special train to run on Raksha Bandhan

Indian Railways recently announced that it will be running ladies’ special trains on Raksha Bandhan, which is on August 26, to make travelling more convenient for them.
As per the news release, these special trains will be running on three different routes. The said routes are—from New Delhi to Palwal, New Delhi to Panipat and New Delhi to Ghaziabad. This thoughtful gesture by the Indian Railways will make it easier for women, who would need to travel long distance to meet and tie rakhis to their brothers.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrated annually on purnima or the full moon day in the month of shravana (as per the Hindu calendar). On this auspicious day, sisters tie rakhis on the wrist of their brothers as a ritual, which signifies a bond of protection.

This initiative by the Indian Railways to start special trains for women is likely to prove a boon for women travelling long distances for this occasion.
