Hisar Airport to begin domestic flight operations from June under UDAN scheme

Haryana’s Hisar Airport will start operating domestic flight services from the month of June. State Civil Aviation Minister Rao Narbir Singh made this announcement recently. He also informed that the airport will be operational under the centre’s UDAN scheme, ie, ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik’.
The civil aviation minister further stated that the Hisar Airport is being built in three phases into an integrated aviation hub, and the Pinnacle Airlines, under central government’s RCS-UDAN, initiative will start its services from June 2018.
The proposal to develop Hisar Airport into an international airport was put forward by the Haryana government in December 2014. Now, as per the sources, the airport will be operational from June this year. One of the prime reasons for developing this region is that Hisar has close proximity with Delhi and Chandigarh through road and rail. The state government believes that because of its proximity to the capital, the region becomes a potential location for commercial development.

Principal Secretary, Civil Aviation, Devender Singh said that the status of the Hisar Airport will be upgraded in the first phase; the 4000 ft air strip will be increased to 9000 ft in the next 18 to 24 months, where operational facilities such as modern navigational assistance, parking will be provided to operators and airlines and night landing of MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) aircraft. Singh also informed that in the final phase, an aerotropolis will also be developed.
