Every September, Kiwi fashion designers showcase their exciting and innovative style to the world during New Zealand Fashion Week. The event is designed to thrust Kiwi fashion onto the world stage, and is a platform for local designers to promote their collections to international buyers and media, and demonstrate their unique style. The Designer Selection Shows—held at 8 pm every night during Fashion Week—offer stylish snapshots of designer collections, and are the highlight of the week. Once the shows are over, downtown Auckland is the place to be. There is a huge variety of places to shop, dine and drink, and there is always something going on. Britomart—with its graceful buildings, shopping gallery and the hottest nightlife venues—is where all the action is. Along the harbour, the Wynyard Quarter has a warm atmosphere, and offers a range of delicious waterfront restaurants and enticing bars. Just a ferry ride across the harbour, Waiheke Island is well known for its galleries, craft boutiques, vineyards and white sandy beaches—and is the perfect place to relax after a week of catwalks and champagne. Aside from the event, Auckland is the ideal destination for style-minded visitors, with an array of quirky, cutting-edge designer boutiques, flagship international fashion stores, and several cool markets selling everything from unique jewellery, to arts and crafts.
