But, since this is the new year, why not go for something new? These offbeat trekking trails are worth travelling for because they will not only take you to new routes, but will also let you experience new regions and cultures.
Mount Saramati, Nagaland
Located in Tuensang district, Mount Saramati is the highest mountain in Nagaland. The trek can be a daunting one for beginners as it requires climbing steep and rocky inclines for the most part of the trek. The cold doesn’t help either.
Sandakphu, West Bengal
This is the highest point of the Singalila Ridge but don’t worry as it’s a fairly easy trek. The route takes you across some of the most beautiful forests. The trek is lined with rhododendrons and pine trees. When in season (April - June), the forest looks spectacular in red, pink and white.
Mawryngkhang Trek, Meghalaya
If you are afraid of heights, stay away from this trek. The trekking route takes you above the ground, on a narrow bamboo path over gorges and will finally take you to the U Mawryngkhang Rock. This is popularly known as the scariest trek in Meghalaya.
Tso Lhamo Lake Trek, Sikkim
Located near Lachen, Tso Lhamo Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world. And, because of its location and rough terrain, most people stay away from this trek. At that altitude, there is always the danger of unpredictable weather. It takes about two days to fully explore the region.
Milam Glacier Trek, Uttarakhand
Have 10 days to spare? That’s the number of days you will need to explore the glacier. You can’t expect anything less from one of the longest glaciers in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
Devkund Waterfall Trek, Maharashtra
Located in Raigad district, Devkund Waterfall trek will take you to some of the most beautiful valleys and forests of the Western Ghats. Post monsoon is the best time to explore the area. Avoid the monsoon season.
Miyar Valley trek, Himachal Pradesh
Located in Lahaul district, Miyar is one of the least visited places in the state. The area is mostly visited by nomadic tribes and their livestocks. The terrain and altitude can be pretty challenging for those not familiar with high-altitude trekking.
