Gundulićeva Poljana

Located in the Old Town of Dubrovnik, Gundulićeva Poljana is a buzzing central market. The open air market faces the Rector’s Palace and the Cathedral. The local traders from nearby towns and villages come daily to Gundulićeva Poljana to sell fresh produce. Established in 1892, the market features open stalls on the street. The market at Gundulićeva Poljana is for Dubrovnik citizens who visit the market for daily needs like vegetable, fruits, olives, spices, honey, meats, fish, flowers, dairy products and groceries. The highlights of the market are the aromatic lavender oils and locally produced grappa and brandies. The colorful market is a visual delight for tourists. The market starts at 6 am and lasts till noon. The best time to visit the market is in the morning, when you can spot stalls awaiting for clientele. Taste some strong local brandies of Loza and Travarica at one of the streetside bars; it is a great way to end the tour of the market. You can also stock up on edible souvenirs and local brews to take back home. Do not forget to check out the bronze statue of the 17th century poet, Ivan Gundulić, after whom the square was named.
