Grand Pacific Glacier is the widest glacier in the Glacier Bay National Park. It is full of debris and rock and blackened throughout after carrying a load of rocks for 40 km. Margerie Glacier is much cleaner—its white cliffs rise 100-m-high and look like they have been delicately chipped away at with hand tools, while crystals of blue ice peek through the exterior. An ice cave has been formed where the glacier meets the ocean—extremely unstable and constantly suffering from thunderous calving, it is an impressive sight to behold from the deck of your luxury cruiser. This entire region provides excellent glacier experiences, with both receding and advancing glaciers moving side by side. Only two hundred years ago the bay was partially buried under ice and the shore line is changeable.
