Goa tourism – monsoon is now a preferred time to travel

Goa wears yet another crown as far as tourism is concerned. It has now been declared as a favourite monsoon destination as well. Goa Tourism said that they noted a 60 percent rise in tourist visits during the monsoon of last year. Goa in monsoon seems to be the next big thing.

The state known for its scenic beaches and eclectic parties, is now being recognised as a spectacular monsoon destination, precisely because of its green environment. The sixty percent increase happened between June and September of last year. Goa State Tourism Director Menino D’Souza said that this rise is phenomenal as compared to the number of visitors in the same period of 2016. Numbers suggest that Goa saw a total of 19.15 lakh tourist arrival during the period last year.

"A total of 18.55 lakh domestic tourists visited the state during the monsoon season last year as compared to 11.48 lakh in 2016. Besides, there were 60,161 foreign tourist footfalls in that period last year as against 45,437 in 2016," D'Souza said.

The official data suggests that 30.75 percent growth has been recorded in the said period’s tourist arrival.

D’Souza further said, "The monsoon time is now a preferred season for travel by both domestic and foreign tourists. This increasing attraction to the state can be attributed to the pleasant weather conditions during those months, scenic landscapes and adventure activities like white water rafting and trekking," he said.
Goa has seen a response in terms of monsoon activities and packages, so more businesses are opening up during the monsoons to cater to the growing number of tourists.
