Things are escalating quickly in the aviation world; and soon, we might have a supersonic jet from New York to London. According to reports, a start-up company based in Atlanta has obtained finance to create a supersonic plane that can travel at the speed of Mach 5. The plane that would travel five times the speed of sound (Mach 1) will be able to take passengers from New York to London in 90 minutes, or less.
According to the makers, it will take at least ten years to finally produce this supersonic jet. But experts suggest that there are going to be many challenges to create this supersonic jet, the biggest one being propulsion. The engineering capabilities required to fly a supersonic jet are extremely advanced. Then, there is the financial and environmental issue, as flying faster than the speed of sound would burn a lot of fuel.
But rest assured, if this actually materialises, we can expect to fly to far off places in less than half the time it currently takes. Of course, tickets for such an aeroplane experience would be pretty expensive.
