Free travel packages for senior citizens from December

A new pilgrim scheme will soon be launched by the government, called the Mukhya Mantri Tirth Yatra. With the launch of this programme, senior citizens wanting to travel around the designated religious circuits will be offered free travel packages.
As per the latest news reports, senior citizens in Delhi will soon be able to register themselves on the government portal to avail free travel packages for five religious circuits. The Delhi Tourism Transportation Corporation Ltd (DTTDC) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Indian Railways and Catering Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in the presence of DeputyChief Minister Manish Sisodia.
As per the said pilgrim scheme, from each of the 70 assembly, around 1100 senior citizens will be given the chance to travel to five pre-decided religious circuits from this December. The circuits included in the scheme are Vaishno Devi-Jammu, Vrindavan-Mathura-Barsana-Agra-Fatehpur Sikri, Golden Temple-Wagah Border-Anandpur Sahib and Haridwar-Rishikesh-Neelkanth, Pushkar. And depending on the number of destinations and the distance, the tour will likely last for four to five days.
Referring to this development, a DTTDC official stated that IRCTC will be operating special non-AC trains from Safdarjung railway station. Each train that will be used by the pilgrims will have 15 coaches. Also, the pilgrims above 70 years will be allowed to take an attendant each.
With the launch of this pilgrim scheme, it is expected that it will prove to be a great relief and helpful for the senior citizens.
