In a major turn of events for the global climbing community, the Indian government has thrown open 137 peaks in the Himalayas for foreigners. These 137 peaks also include the all-time muse of climbers, the mighty Kanchenjunga (also Kanchendzonga). At 8589 m, Kanchenjunga is one of the most impressive names in the world of climbing.
Other than Kanchenjunga, this list of 137 peaks, includes Dunagiri, Hardeol, Kabru South and North, Mt Kailash, and Mulkila as well. 51 of these peaks are in Uttarakhand, 24 in Sikkim, 15 in Jammu & Kashmir, and 47 in Himachal Pradesh.
In addition, climbers will have to stick to the regular, approved routes.
