One of the world's most scenic public transport systems
Noteworthy for: Each year, a handful of humpback whales stray into Sydney Harbour, which are usually best observed from the deck of the Manly ferry.
It's of little surprise that a bustling port like Sydney has a comprehensive ferry service, but it isn't just for tourists, with boats ferrying thousands of commuters to and from work each day from as far as Parramatta in the city's outer west. For leisure, recommended trips from Circular Quay include Balmain, Milson's Point, Neutral Bay, Mosman Bay, Taronga Zoo, Manly and Watson's Bay (restaurants and bars can be found at each port) but try to avoid rush hour, when ferries will be packed with commuters.
