Word to the wise: Al Ghazal and National Taxis charge twice as much as the silver cabs, so check the company before boarding.

As Abu Dhabi’s metro isn't up-and-running, and buses don’t always reach where you want when you want, many in the capital use taxis as their main form of transportation. It helps that they’re cheap—a jaunt around town rarely exceeds AED 10.
Silver cabs are the most common, and many are installed with GPS. Still, the device isn’t always up-to-date, as road works and street name changes are common in the emirate. Drivers are also more likely to associate an address with its nearest landmark than with its street name. As a result, it’s always a good idea to have clear directions and a location map, as well as the phone number of your destination.
