Until recently, the rainy season was not a popular time to visit Zambia's South Luangwa National Park. All that changed when Mchenja bush camp was opened in January, February and March 2007. This was the first time that any of the Luangwa's bush camps had operated at this time of year and the result was spectacular. With access only possible by boat, once in the camp, guests knew that they were among the privileged few. The Luangwa in full flood is an awesome sight, but the real fun is when you explore its tributaries and the smaller gullies that are so prolific at that time of the year. Floating through a flooded ebony grove is one of the most enchanting, mesmerising experiences.
