For every chai lover, Chai La in Pune is the name to reckon with for its special tea variety that is nowhere to be found. Chai La’s speciality is the Tandoori Chai which is made by roasting earthen cups or kulhad in a pre-heated tandoor. As the semi-cooked tea is poured over the hot kulhad, the beverage bubbles over to the brim. This technique lends an enticing smoky flavour to the milky chai which is served in clean earthen cups to the customers. Customers drown their chai, nay, tandoori chai, with bun-maska or bun, maska, and jam.
As for those who are not so much a fan of tea, they can opt for Tandoori Coffee which is made in a similar manner.
The shop owner has a secret recipe – a sort of family-owned trade secret – which he smartly guards from inquisitive and curious customers.
