Bhopal is a modern day city with every trace of contemporary nuances evident everywhere. This is however balanced out by the abundance of natural beauty in and around the city. Start your nature trail with a visit to Upper and Lower Lakes. Just off the city borders, these two lakes are divided from each other by an overbridge. The former, also known as Bada Talaab, is the bigger of the two and also more tourist friendly with walkways offering great views around and a government run boat club offering facilities for sailing, paddle boats and motor boat rides. The Lower Lake was built by Nawab Chhote Khan in 1794 and is equally rich in nature’s splendour. Another place where you can relish nature’s abundance is the Bhimbetka Hill, located around 45 kms from Bhopal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bhimbetka Hill contains a cluster of 14 rock shelters which house some of the best prehistoric rock art in the world.
