As the first rays of the sun glistens on the snow-clad peaks of Mount Kanchenjunga, the eyes along with the mind remains transfixed at the breathtaking beauty unfolding in its own majestic way. Dzongri top, at an altitude of 13,681 ft presents a grand opportunity to enjoy the panorama of Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Pandim, which will keep one satiated with glee till lifetime. The trek starts from Yuksom, about 40 km from Pelling and goes through Kanchenjunga National Park till Goecha La Pass at close to 16,000 ft. Regular tourists and travellers can plan a short hike till Dzongri and return back through the same route. The Goechela Pass trek is a full blown Himalayan trek for the hardcore trekking enthusiasts. The flora and fauna of the Kanchenjunga National Park is a treat to the nature lovers as species of birds like verditer flycatcher, mrs gould’s sunbird, purple sunbird, black redstarts are found on the top of the silver firs and rhododendrons. The canopy of rhododendrons covering both the sides on the way to Dozongri from Tshoka offers a red carpet welcome to the visitors. Trekkers hut are available at Tshoka and Dzongri for stay and it’s better to be equipped with food supplies for a 3-4 day sojourn to this mystic place.
