Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to be built by 2022; cut down the journey by half

As per the news reports, you will soon be able to reach Delhi from Mumbai and vice-versa in just 12.5 hours. As of now, the same journey takes close to 25 hours. The project is titled as the ‘Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’ and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to start the construction work in March. It is expected to finish by March 2022, cutting down the travel time by half and easing the commute between two of the biggest metro cities of the country.
More than 12000 hc has been acquired for this massive project, and once completed, it will be the longest expressway in the country. As per the plan, it would be traversing through five states. Owing to the massiveness of the project, work would be done on it in phases, each taken care of by different contractors.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is one of the fully-funded government projects, and thus it would be a smoother ride on the financial front. As of now, NHAI is sealing the land-acquisition deals needed for the construction.
An official statement by highway ministry official on the same says, “Now there is a clear line of action. We have fast-tracked the land acquisition process and since the expressway mostly passes through uninhabited areas, getting land is easy. For each package we are getting at least four bidders and all of them are good performing contractors. Since the works are fully funded by government, construction can start soon.”
