Almost at one end of the French Quarter is the French Market. It’s often regarded as a tourist but it is nevertheless a lovely and fun place to wander around and browse. Supposedly going back more than 200 years, this is a partially covered building with beautiful gateways at either end. Inside, it is common to find farmers displaying fresh produce ranging from vegetables and fruits to meat and dairy produce. In between were souvenir shops and an array of eclectic items including Venetian masks, Mardi Gras staples and clothes. Further along, the market was filled with restaurants and eateries serving such things as snow cones, crocodile meat sausages, baked goods and other New Orleans’ classics.
