Word to the wise: In clement weather, you can take a boat ferry from Coliemore Harbour out to the tiny Dalkey Island - a great spot for a picnic.

This former medieval port is a favoured location for second homes amongst Dublin's elite, but don't let that put you off: the beautiful stretch of coast is ideal for walking and has many a nice place to fill your belly and wet your whistle.
The easiest way to get there is to jump on a southbound DART from Connolly station; the coastline-hugging journey takes around 40 minutes and is a treat in itself. We recommend stopping off at Sandycove/Glasthule for a seafood lunch at Cavistons restaurant before continuing on to Dalkey. Take a stroll around the village, walk up to Killiney Hill and enjoy the panoramic views of Dublin Bay. Back in Dalkey village, visit Finnegan’s pub for a creamy pint of Guinness.
