Historic landmarks, insightful museums, spectacular countryside and an impressive heritage of industry and sports are just some of the highlights of one of Britain’s most happening cities, Manchester. Located in the north-western part of the country, it is one of the most populous cities in Britain. The birthplace of the country’s industrial revolution, Manchester achieved its city status in 1853. A perfect amalgamation of the old with the modern, the city’s skyline is truly fascinating with a mix of Contemporary, Georgian, Roman and even Gothic styles of architecture. Home to the football league and famously known for ‘exporting’ football to the world, it is also famous for other sports like cycling, cricket and squash. Swanky shopping malls, exotic clubs, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife make it one of the most visited and popular cities. Thus with so much to see and do, the experience of visiting the city is as exciting as varied. Apart from attractions within the city, there are some exciting options off Manchester as well. Hence, travellers can easily plan their day trips from Manchester. The city is well connected by air, train and road. Located about 16 km away from the city centre, Manchester Airport (MAN) is the fourth busiest in the UK and is connected to all major national and international cities. The main train station, Manchester Piccadilly, is well connected to major cities in the UK. The bus and tram network too is excellent and a great way to travel to the city as also the wider region of Greater Manchester. The best time to visit is between May and August when it is summer and the city's events calendar is packed. The football season is also an important factor you need to consider while planning your visit. The city is flooded between September and December due to the start of the football season and you may want to book your hotel and tickets in advance to take advantage of the rates and deals.
