It is one of the oldest gatherings in North America, a festival that has been in place for over 100 years and draws in visitors from all over the world. They are known as one of the most prestigious highland games in the West, and attract competitors from all over Canada and the USA. Whether you are a Scot or not, you are sure to enjoy what all the participants have to offer, including pipers, dancers, drummers, athletes and more. The festival is a one-day fest, held during the first weekend of September, and family passes for the day run as low as $50. Some of the most popular events here are the heavy events, such as hammer throws (both heavy and light hammers), Caber toss, and Braemar Stone throw. Other competitions that visitors can watch include the ever popular highland dancing that involves both children and adults, along the rhythm of bagpipes and drums. Two charity soccer games are played to kick off the games, there are plenty of vendors on site offering traditional Scottish food and drinks, and the atmosphere is both lively and family friendly.
