Cabarete

This is where to come to see the future of kitesurfing. The local kids who teach in the kiting schools spend their afternoons trying out new tricks when conditions are flat but then come in when it gets too big leaving it to the visitors to play in the waves (which are Caribbean in size—under 6 foot). The wind turns on here at 11 am, so if you like your nightlife you don't have to worry about missing the best conditions, then the winds build throughout the day. If you come here to learn it's best to come late in the summer, but it's a good place to get a mix of freestyle and wave practice. As well as kite surfing you can do a range of different outdoor activities at Cabarete or else just enjoy the bar and restaurant scene, it's pretty touristy.
