Being on a very small island, the palace overlooks the expansive Arabian Sea and offers panoramic vistas from its rooms. While the palace served as the home of the British governors, it became a property of the Kerala state. Later it was converted into a heritage hotel run by the state tourism board. Though still referred to as Bolghatty Palace by most people, this heritage hotel offers a nine hole golf course, an Ayurvedic centre, a panoramic harbour view, and a berthing area for yachts. Moreover, cultural performances are also organised here from time to time. Bolghatty Palace is thus considered one of the best heritage hotels in Kochi. Also known for birdwatching, this place can be accessed either by road or boat. There are frequent ferry services to Bolghatty Island from the mainland.
