Known as one of Beijing's most beautiful parks, Beihai, with its 70 square kilometres and close proximity to the Forbidden City, is a popular refuge from city life for both locals and travellers alike.
Delicate Chinese gardens, traditional pavilions, impressive stone bridges and Buddha temples can be found scattered throughout. Having once served as as a private garden for the Imperial Court, Beihai opened to the public in 1952 and has since been an attractive place for locals to practice Tai Chi, rent peddle boats, play chess, paint, or have picnics.
