Beihai Park is the oldest and the largest park in the centre of Beijing. This ancient imperial garden is situated just north-west of the Forbidden City. A large area of the garden is occupied by a lake at its centre. Boat riding is one of the major attractions here. One can find boats in various shapes and sizes, including the ones shaped as dragons. A ride in a dragon boat is a great way to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The imposing White Dagoba located in the centre of Jade Flower Island in the middle of the lake can be seen from far away. The lake has a promenade running around it, where you see young Chinese couples or families with young children enjoying and relaxing. The shoreline is lined with weeping willows and makes a great venue for an evening stroll. Do not miss the Nine Dragon Wall situated in the park; it's one of the best preserved dragon walls. Beihai Park is a perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It is advisable to visit the park on weekdays as during weekends it gets flooded with locals.
