Discovering the cultural side for Bali
Bali is a popular Asian beach destination which is visited by a sea of travellers every year. Now that the beautiful island in Indonesia has opened its border, travellers from across the globe are gearing up and planning a visit. But for those who want to avoid all touristy things in Bali, there’s a lot to see and explore on the island. There is absolutely no dearth of attraction in Bali for offbeat travellers.
Here are some of the most offbeat things to do in beautiful Bali.
Watch Barong and Keris dance performances
Another captivating cultural and unique thing to do in Bali is watching Barong and Keris dance. An interesting folk dance, it is performed as a play where an eternal fight between the good and evil spirit is showcased. Barong basically is a mythological animal which represents the good spirit and Rangda is a monster representing evil. It’s an interesting dance performance which requires actors to wear unique attire and colourful masks.
Discover Ubud’s artistic side
The cultural capital of Bali, Ubud is home to some spectacular art galleries and stores selling amazing silverware, wood products and Balinese and Bhutanese paintings, among others. There are some amazing art workshops and interested tourists can take guided tours and buy souvenirs.
Explore the terraced paddy fields of Tegalalang
Bali is noted for its terraced paddy fields and Tegalalang is one of the best places to experience these. Just a few kilometers from Ubud, Tegalalang is less touristy and perfect for those looking for peace and solitude. There are pretty small coffee shops dotted in the region, overlooking the paddy fields. The landscape is simply enchanting.
Plan a trip to Kintamani - a hill station in Bali
Kintamani is one of the few hill stations on the island. This hill station is no less than a pleasant surprise offering gorgeous views and pleasant climate. Once you reach Kintamani, do visit Mount Batur and Lake Batur. One can enjoy trekking to the active volcanic mountain here. Lake Batur on the other hand is a photographer’s dream destination with cool blue waters.
Enjoy Sanghyang - Balinese fire show performance
You simply can’t miss out on enjoying Sanghyang, a unique Balinese dance performance. It is as interesting as it can get! The best part of this performance is the large group of orchestra containing 70 artists creating music with their vocals and the dancers swaying on. The artists also use fire during the play that has five acts. It narrates the story from the epic, the Ramayana.
