The rodeo is by far one of the main highlights of the Calgary Stampede and offers a whopping two million dollars in prize money to those talented riders, ropers, barrel racers and more. This tournament style rodeo starts on day one and includes events such as bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling and tie down roping. Contestants vie to make it to ‘showdown Sunday’ where the best of the best compete in the last day of stampede for the highest prize money. Visitors to the stampede have the option of purchasing rodeo tickets in advance or at the gates and have their choice of standing or sitting, with the later being pricier. The rodeo operates rain or shine so stampede goers should come prepared as in recent years’ things have gotten a touch muddy. Prepare to watch as brave young men hop onto the backs of bucking bulls and fierce women race against the clock and around the barrels in what is considered one of the greatest rodeos on earth.
