For two weeks in December not only do visitors and locals get to enjoy the animals at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, but they also get to witness art. Artistic art installations take over the zoo, and turn it into a true winter wonderland. Every year the zoo takes on a different theme and a contest opens to every artist, individual or organization in the public, encouraging them to send in their ideas. With a focus on the animals, many of the lights take on their forms. But lights aren’t the only thing to discover when you head to the zoo during the festival of lights. Count on hot chocolate stands, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, special date nights in the huge igloo, VIP nights and more. Expect treats, decorations, sleigh bells, games and more. Pop inside to warm up and discover the animals, roll a few balls of snow and create snowmen, and celebrate the artists’ community within the city of Edmonton.
